Learn and experience Latin American folklore and Canto Nuevo music with musicians Patricia Mazuela and Abel Rocha of Sin Fronteras. All skills levels and musical talents are welcome!
This is a 2-part workshop happening on-site at Arbutus Folk School.
In this workshop, students will learn guitar, jarana, percussion, and vocals for 2-4 songs from the nueva canción movement of Latin America. All other instruments are welcome to participate in adaptation to the genre. Please bring along your instrument of choice.
Firstly a general introduction will be made to the genre, history, the political movement, and lyricism. This will be followed by the technical elements of instrumentation, song structure, fundamentals and a bit of theory. Finally, all of this will be incorporated into training for live performance.
Sin Fronteras will perform live at Arbutus Folk School on February 4th, 2022, at 7pm. All students who participate in both workshops and are planning to attend the concert on February 4th will have the opportunity to perform with the band.
Concert tickets are available for purchase at https://arbutusfolkschool.org/sin-fronteras-concert-november-13th-2021/. Concert tickets are sold separately from workshop registration to allow for accuracy in our Covid capacity limits.
