Ages 16 and older
Woodshop By Appointment provides open studio time for self-directed projects. Students will need to bring their own wood to use, and should be proficient in the techniques required for their projects. While there is no instruction provided, a knowledgeable woodworking steward is on hand to orient students to the shop space and answer questions. Participants may use Arbutus's stock of hand tools which includes, but is not limited to, work benches, chisels, hand planes, saws, sharpening stones, marking and measuring tools, and carving tools, or bring their own tools.
Students must complete a safety training session with the open shop facilitator to use the following equipment: table saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, bandsaw, drill press, routers and router table. Safety training sessions are 15 minutes per machine and are billed as a part of the student's open shop time. Students who have previously completed our two-hour Woodshop Safety class in 2019 or more recently do not need to complete additional safety training sessions.
Students may choose from three set rates: $15 for up to 1 hour in the shop, $25 for 1-2 hours, and $35 for 2-3 hours. If you would like to book a Woodshop by Appointment session, please email us at info@arbutusfolkschool.org and our staff will connect you with a woodworking steward to arrange a time and date. Appropriate for intermediate to advanced skill levels.
