Ages 14 and older
This class engages with our community's long tradition of boatbuilding in a hands-on way with master boatbuilder Ben Kahn, and is generously sponsored in part by the Port of Olympia.
Students will learn key boatbuilding skills by creating a maritime-themed side table of White oak and Western red cedar. This unique project will allow students to practice and explore heritage skills in boatbuilding such as steam bending, screwing and plugging, ship lap joinery, scribing and bandsawing curves, swedish dovetails, and the use of japanese saws, planes, and chisels.
Appropriate for all skill levels. Course runs for two days, and is open to students ages 14 and older.
Classes take place at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia, WA. Please enter through the door in the alley behind the building.
There will be an hour break for lunch - please bring food (or check out nearby foodtrucks!), snacks, and a water bottle.
Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes.
