Linoleum block printmaking is a method of relief printing, which involves carving a drawing into a soft linoleum block, rolling a thin layer of ink over it, and pressing paper on top to transfer the image. The Linocut can be used repeatedly, using different colored inks. This process of printmaking is similar to woodcut but, since linoleum lacks a grain, linocuts can yield a greater variety of effects.
In this class students will learn how to transfer their design onto a linoleum piece, how to safely use specialized carving tools, and how to ink and press paper by hand to make prints. No printmaking experience required, but some drawing experience is useful.
This course is open to students ageas 12 and older. No experience is necessary. Students who have taken other linocut classes are also welcome to register if they would like to continue practicing and advancing their skills.
Note: Masks are required for duration of classes.
All materials will be provided, but please bring some reference images and drawings to use. You may also like to bring an apron or wear clothes that can get dirty.
Classes take place at: Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia, WA.
