In this fun youth camp, students will learn how to create 3-D pieces of artwork using fiber and clay.
One session of the camp will be devoted to needle felting. Students will be shown how to safely use needle felting tools to sculpt wool fiber to create their choice of a small animal or finger puppets. The children will also get to take home the felting tools to continue their needle felting journey.
For the other two sessions, the instructor will shift to clay and demonstrate basic handbuilding and sculptural techniques. Students are then encouraged to design and create their own clay animal or creature as well as a container, like a bowl or cup, and finish by decorating their masterpieces with underglazes. Parents may pick up once the pieces are fired in our kilns.
No experience with needle felting or ceramics is needed for this camp. All necessary materials will be provided.
Students should wear clothes that can get dirty or bring an apron, and a hand towel.
Masks are required for the duration of class.
Class takes place at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia.
Please plan to arrive 5-10 mins before each class to sign your student(s) in. Students also need to be signed out before leaving.
