Ages 12 and older are welcome!
The award winning Gangspil duo is bringing merry tunes from their home country of Denmark to share with everybody! Come bring your instruments and learn Danish traditional tunes!
Kristian and Sonnich specialize in musical dialects from around Denmark and will focus on traditional music from some of the most famous and richest musical regions like the small Islands of Læsø and Fanø and the northwestern regions called Thy and Vendsyssel. The repertoire will consist of old dance tunes with fun and catchy refrains: whirling walzes, happy polkas, groovy jigs, fiery reels and breathless hopsas, plus the exotic “Sønderhoning” dance tunes from the Island of Fanø, where Sonnich's family is deeply rooted. The duo play by ear, and you may bring simple recording equipment so you can continue practicing after the workshop. The fiddle, diatonic accordion, and harmonicas are Kristian and Sonnich's specialty, but those who play the flute, guitar, bass, or other instruments are also welcome to bring their instruments and join in the music making! Besides some good tunes to take home, you will also be entertained by spicy anecdotes about the musicians, their lives, and their careers.
This workshop is suitable for intermediate and advanced musicians.
