Please Note: This class takes place in the New Kamilche area. Registered students will be sent the address prior to the start of the course.
In this one-session workshop, you will be making a beautiful one-of-a-kind life sized glass mask.
You will start with a life-sized wax face and personalize your mask by adding details in clay. After pouring a special plaster mix over your composition, you will remove the clay and wax shapes. Then you are ready to fill your face mask shape with mosaic-sized glass frit, which can be any combination of iridized clear crystal, ebony black, ivory white, royal blue or forest green. The plaster molds are then loaded into glass kilns and fired. The firing will take several days, after which your mask will be ready to take home!
All glass materials and supplies are included. For safety, please wear closed toe shoes and long pants, and tie hair back in the glass studio. Working with plaster material also requires an N95 dust mask. This is a beginning level course with no prior experience necessary. Your finished tile can be picked up at Arbutus Folk School's downtown location the week after the course ends during open hours: Monday 10am-1pm/6-9pm, Tuesday 10am-1pm, Wednesday 10am-1pm, Thursday 2-5pm, or Sunday 9am-3pm.
