In this two session workshop, you will press into clay plant specimens or flat objects brought from home or pick items at the glass studio site, to make a composition that only you can create. You will then remove the objects and pour a plaster mixture into the impressions. After cleaning the mold, we will fill the empty spaces with selected frit glass colors of iridescent crystal, ivory, or black, and fire in the glass kiln overnight to create a personalized 7” x 7” glass tile.
All glass materials and supplies are included. Please wear closed toe shoes and long pants in the glass studio. Note that working with plaster material requires a dust mask/N-95. You may bring one from home or use one provided by the instructor.
This is a beginning level course. No experience necessary. The basics of kiln casting and vocabulary terms will be presented, and students who complete the class will be eligible to participate in next-level glass classes with the instructor.
The classes takes place at Glass-Studio.US, located in the New Kamilche area. Mary will email exact directions to all registered students prior to the start of the course. Your finished botanical tile can be picked up at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, the week after the course ends, during any of our Ceramics Open Studio hours: Sundays (9am-noon), Mondays (6-9pm), and Thursdays (2-5pm).
