November Clay Night - Sprigged Pots
Community Clay Night is a time to relax and enjoy some creative time in the studio with a guided project.
Sprigging is a technique for decorating pottery with relief shapes. The shapes are made separately from the main body and applied to it before bisque firing. The resulting pottery is termed sprigged ware, and the added piece is a "sprig".
In our November Community Clay Night, we will learn how to create custom sprig moulds for potters to use in the future and practice making sprigs and attaching them to wares. Participants will be provided with an assortment of sprig moulds to use during class and one leather hard ware to attach sprigs to. Participants can also bring their own or additional pieces to work on. To finish their pieces, participants can choose to glaze bisqued wares by coming into an Open Studio session OR choose a glaze color for their finished pots to be applied by the instructor. Sprig moulds will be bisque fired for participants and can be picked up with their finished pieces.
Participants should plan to wear clothes that can get dirty and bring a water bottle and items to create unique sprig moulds for future use. This class is open to everyone. No ceramics experience is required.
