This second course in the Beginner Knitting Series (after Knit and Purl) is Cable and Lace. Cables are a classic and timeless knit pattern, featured prominently in fishermen’s sweaters, hats, and countless other knitted items. Students will be guided through this new skill and will add a cabled section to a sampler scarf as they practice, and eventually be able to move on to create a variety of cozy cabled knits. Once proficient in cables, students will delve into lace. Lace is much more than just a frilly trim - it’s a complex skillset that can move knitters through simple eyelets to heirloom wedding shawls. The instructor will closely guide students through a lace pattern in their sampler scarf, offering a basic knowledge that will allow them to incorporate lace into future projects.
Students will need to bring a pair of size 8 knitting needles, a cable needle of similar width to your knitting needles, and worsted weight yarn in any medium or light tone (please no navy, dark brown, black, or other deep shades - we want you to be able to see what you're doing!) The instructor has included a detailed guide for purchasing all necessary supplies. Indigo Purls Yarn Boutique and Our Local Yarn Shop (OLYS) will give a 10% discount on these supplies if you mention your purchase is for a class at Arbutus Folk School. Note: Students must know how to cast on, knit and purl.
