Join weaver Anthony Choke (Nisqually, Chehalis) to create your own headband out of cedar bark. Western redcedar is used for many purposes, from utilitarian to decorative. This headband is traditional as "everyday clothes" and can be made to your own size and shape. Weaving materials are harvested and prepared by the instructor's family, including a year of rolled storage before splitting into strips. Participants will come home with a completed headband as well as learning about the traditions and significance of the materials and cedar bark weaving.
This folk & traditional arts workshop is supported with funding from Northwest Heritage Resources, a Washington state cultural non-profit organization.
Class fee waived for members of regional tribes. Please contact info@arbutusfolkschool.org to register and have your fee waived.
