There is a vast array of embroidery types in the world of “Needlework.” In the instructor's Beginning Embroidery classes, students concentrate on “surface stitches”, which are stitches that can be placed on any type of fabric. The other classification of stitches is called “counted embroidery” where stitch placement depends on counting! It is a more graphic method and relies on using even weave fabric. This type of embroidery continues to be very popular. When you see a “sampler”, most likely it involved “counted work.”
While counted cross-stitch is relatively simple, it does open the door to many, many other types of counted work. In this one-session introductory class, we will talk about the fabrics, threads, needles, and techniques of Counted Cross Stitch. We will start out on an 11-count Aida cloth (which is very user friendly and easy to see) in order to learn the techniques and practice following a charted design. In addition to the basic “cross,” we will also learn the outlining “back stitch.”
Please bring a pair of scissors to clip threads. The instructor will supply all other materials, including fabrics, needles, threads, and instructions. The kit fee of $5.00 is paid directly to the instructror on the first day of class.
