This six week course is designed for beginner to intermediate students who desire to be in an environment with peers of a similar age. Students will learn how to make slab built vessels that incorporate and design with texture. Students will be immersed in the ceramic studio environment by learning the fundamental procedures for working with clay and will gain greater confidence in their ability to work in ceramics while creating a series of rich textural pieces.
We will be looking at contemporary ceramic artists that stand out for their use of texture and learn from their methods. We will explore mark making with found objects and commercial stamps, create our own stamps, and create and apply sprigs. The goal of this class is to learn different ways to embellish your work with texture. By the end of the course students will walk away with a satisfying set of vessels that have a rich textural surface.
