In this green wood carving class, led by woodworker and veteran carver Ryan Johnson, learn to make a handmade wooden spatula to take home and use in your kitchen! Each step of the process will be outlined by the instructor so you can follow along, beginning with a spatula blank prepared from logs by the instructor.
Participants will learn about general woodshop safety and use of a number of carving tools, including knives, gouges, hook knives, clamps, and saws. Students will be introduced to grain orientation of wood in order to guide their woodworking creations and decisions in processing materials. This course is designed as a carving class of intermediate difficulty. Prior participation in a whittling or carving class is recommended due to the larger size and slight increase in difficulty of the project.
