Drop spindling is one of the oldest fiber arts, believed to have started with a simple stick rolled on the thigh!
In this class we will learn about wool fiber and its characteristics, and the different varieties of drop spindles. We begin with lap spinning and quickly move to the drop spindle and how to create the yarn you are looking for. In the second week we will learn how to ply your fiber into a 2-ply yarn, ready for use!
This class is for beginning spinners - no experience required. Wool fiber will be provided.
Students must bring a drop spindle. If you do not already own a spindle, and would like to buy one from the instructor, please bring a cheque for $32 to the first class. If you would prefer to purchase one yourself, the instructor recommends a Schachts Hi-Lo 3” 2.2 ounce spindle which can be purchased online from a variety of websites.
Ages 14 and up welcome!
Classes will be at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia. Please bring a drop spindle or a cheque for $32 to the first class to purchase one from the instructor.
