Carving with Soapstone for Beginners

Learn the basics of sculpting with soapstone in a two hour introductory class great for both kids and adults. The class will be held at the Tenino Stone Carvers Shed in downtown Tenino, WA. See the history of this famous "Stone City" come alive inside the Shed. Students will carve their choice of animal: Wolf, Bear, Orca, Eagle, Turtle, or Cat. Sculptures stand 3" tall and will be carved, sanded, polished and waxed within the 2 hour class. The process uses files and water to eliminate dust or the need for eye/lung protection. Soapstone is a soft and colorful stone that is quick and easy for beginners to shape. Great class for kids ages 9 to 99.
