
IMPORTANT: Passing the Machine Safety Training Workshop is REQUIRED to use the following woodworking machines during Woodshop Open Studio sessions: miter saw, jointer, planer and bandsaw.
Woodshop Open Studio is meant for self-directed projects without an instructor. Students should be proficient in the techniques required for their projects; however, a knowledgable woodworking staff is on hand to orient students to the shop space and answer questions.Students will need to bring their own wood to use. Woodshop Open Studio participants may use Arbutus's stock of hand tools, which includes but is not limited to work benches, chisels, hand planes, saws, sharpening stones, marking and measuring tools, and carving tools. Participants may also bring their own tools.
Appropriate for intermediate to advanced skill levels. Open woodshop sessions do not include instruction.
Class takes place at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia. Enter from the alley way behind Arbutus building.
Please note: Students will need to bring their own lumber.
Open to students ages 16 years and older. Full scholarships available for youth with financial need - apply at https://arbutusfolkschool.org/youth-scholarship-program/.
Please note that our Covid policy has been updated: All participants over the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to register and attend any Arbutus Folk School class. Please bring proof of vaccination, such as your card or a photo, to your first day of class, and be prepared to present it to your instructor or other Arbutus staff for verification.
