There’s nothing like the feel of a really sharp knife slicing through wood, safely and efficiently. Students in this class will learn to use a variety of carving and sculpture tools (knives, gouges, saws, etc.), and how to approach various kinds of wood. An introductory project--carving a spoon--will introduce basic skills. A sharpening workshop will teach care and feeding of knives and gouges. The spoons students carve can be complex or simple, depending on the imagination and dedication of the individual. At the end of the class each student should have the knowledge and skill to complete their carving on their own.
