In this workshop, students will create a translucent stained-glass mosaic on a clear glass candle holder, which will be illuminated when placed in a window or lit by a tealight.
Students will have use of wheeled nippers to cut glass during this introductory level workshop, and will use clear adhesive to attach translucent glass pieces to a clear glass substrate, which is later grouted. The effect is similar to that of leaded glass, but created spontaneously, without planning, creating a pattern, numbering, and reassembling the pieces.
Students will complete the design the first day. The second day will be the following weekend, when we grout the completed project. Each student will receive two candle holder bases. Some students may work quickly and complete both during the workshop. Others may complete one candle holder but will leave with enough supplies to make another at home. The same techniques learned in this workshop can be used for any glass-on-glass mosaic project.
Students with glass cutting experience and scoring tools are welcome to bring their own tools and supplies, but the instructor will supply everything needed for a beginner student.
Ages 14 and up welcome!
