Steve Harrison will read from two recently published books of poetry.

The Speed of Art and Dreams, a chapbook published by Little Green Notebook Publishing, celebrates Steve’s late wife, painter Rena Williams. The poems reflect on her artistic process and the art and sketchbooks she left behind.

Music for Marching in Place, published by 7 Points Press, is a full-length collection featuring poems on a wide range of subjects. Former Alabama Poet Laureate Jennifer Horne writes, “Do yourself a favor, and spend an hour, or two, or three, with Steve Harrison.”

Copies of both books will be available for purchase on-site.

Steve is a longtime OLLI at Auburn member and instructor. He has taught courses on poets W. B. Yeats, Wallace Stevens, and Charles Baudelaire, as well as courses on the psychological theories of Carl Jung and the wines of France and Italy.

Poet Hank Lazer will lead a small-group writing workshop connecting poetry, writing practice, and meditation. Participants will consider several pieces of writing submitted in advance, discuss the writing process with Lazer, and complete writing exercises during the workshop.

This workshop is part of OLLI at Auburn’s 2026–27 Arts & Letters visiting artist series, supported by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and presented in partnership with the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for Arts and Humanities at Auburn University.
