The less traveled side of DC!
In this class we will be looking for stories. You are already familiar with the big monuments, memorials, and museums, so come explore lesser-known and even secret places throughout this special and unique city. Your guide on this adventure is Andrea Seiger, author of "111 Places in Washington That You Must not Miss."
We will be uncovering some of DC’s diverse neighborhoods. They may include Dupont Circle, Capitol Hill, Adams Morgan, Eastern Market, the Congressional Cemetery and more. Great stories and characters abound, from an heiress and her famous diamond necklace to brothers who became music legends; from a mansion with 80 secret doors to memorials to Presidents; from slave markets to the Underground Railroad; from notable women to entrepreneurs; and from the largest museum complex on earth to the glitz of the Gilded Age. Don't you wonder who hosts the oldest drag brunch in Washington, DC? You'll find out.
About your teacher: Andrea Seiger, author of "111 Places in Washington, DC You Must Not Miss", is an educator and world traveler who has lived in Washington DC for 31 years. She has lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has traveled thousands of miles on the Mayan Route of Mexico. Ms. Seiger loves to road trip around the Mid-Atlantic US and beyond.
CREDIT HOURS
Once you have successfully completed the course and submitted your final project, you will receive a CERTIFICATE via email stating you have earned CREDIT for 36 hours or 3.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units). Your course will consist of a pre-assignment, independent coursework, and final assignment as well as in-person classes with your teacher and other au pairs. Credit for J-1 visa students is 36 hours. Students earning J-1 visa credit must attend all sessions and complete all homework. Please note, students must be prepared to walk a great deal in this class.
