NYC Art and Mindfulness: Elements of Art Therapy

This course explores the connection between the unconscious, mindfulness, and how to incorporate art into healing. We will have the opportunity to learn about artistic movements that incorporate the mysteries of the unconscious mind into their work and practice some techniques these artists used. We will build on this by exploring elements of art therapy and how we can use it as a pathway to mindfulness in our day-to-day lives. Parts of this course will also reflect on other expressions of creativity including music, poetry, and dream states.

Then we will go out on foot in NYC to look at artistic movements that began in the city, as well as abroad–  including Modern Art, Surrealism, Dada, Abstract Expressionism, Street Art, and Contemporary Art.
