Extraterrestrials, aliens, time travel, robots, cyborgs, and a dystopian future. Science fiction films have often been used to focus on political or social issues, and to explore philosophical issues like the human condition. This course will examine the long history of cinema tackling issues facing humanity's future, sometimes in a serious manner, often in silly and ridiculous ways, but always with a focus on providing entertainment and insight to the class. Generous video clips and perceptive analysis are guaranteed.
