TELOS - Ethnobotany   NEW!

This course introduces students to the ideas behind the field of ethnobotany. Explore an overview of the topics which ethnobotanists study, such as shamanism, medicinal plants, and utilitarian plants in many world areas. Do you dream of exploring the Peruvian Amazon to visit indigenous people and meet their shaman? Which plants do people use in the high mountains of Asia to overcome altitude sickness? Are there really miracle plant foods in other areas of the world that can result in longevity with exceptional health? Take this class to find out about the realities of how plants have assisted humans throughout the world to live better lives. This class is taught by a trained cultural anthropologist with a specialty in ethnobotany, but will be a fun exploration together. This class will include a guided tour of the Bellevue Botanical Garden.
