TELOS - Ancient Native American Moundbuilders    NEW!

The banks of the major North American rivers, including the Mississippi, are lined with mounds built by ancient people. Some are in the form of pyramids; many others are in the shape of animals. UNESCO recently designated Poverty Point in Louisiana as a World Heritage Site. Archaeologists tell us that these ancient people managed trade networks that spanned the continent. Who were the mysterious mound builders? We will discuss what we know about the ancient mound builders, discover the magical and amazing monuments left at existing sites, and learn about the programs in place to protect these heritage sites. Although taught by a PhD in Anthropology, this course will be accessible to all.
