TELOS - The Middle East. Episodes from recent history and current politics.   NEW!

The end of the Ottoman Empire after WW1, transformed the Middle East from a reasonably administered set of Ottoman Provinces contigious with a largely peaceful Iran into a disjointed set of artificially created new States prone to unrest and conflict. This course will examine specific elements of Middle East historical and political development, including the problem of the Kurds, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., The Iranian revolution and its aftermath, the Syrian conflict and the emergence of Israel as a regional power.
