Ballet: Blurring Boundaries    NEW!

Everything old is new again, goes the song. This is the perfect phrase to begin our examination of new forms of dance and how they emerged. Beginning with Mark Morris, Jiri Kylian and Twyla Tharp, continuing with Crystal Pite, Sharon Eyal, Wayne McGregor and other current dance influencers, this course offers a unique comparison of today's dance makers and those of bye-gone eras. Learn about these newer choreographers and who influenced them.

Each class session includes video clips that allow us to compare the stylistic elements of one old and one new choreographer. Discussion follows, examining the commonalities and differences between Astaire, Vereen, Hines, Kelly (and other historical dance luminaries) and our newest dance artists. Develop a deeper appreciation for the enduring art form of dance. See how the arc of discovery in dance rides on the backs of former great artists.
