The Haitian Revolution
This course will examine the Haitian Revolution, the only successful slave revolution in the Americas, which erupted in 1791, and how this stunning victory had a lasting impact on the history of democracy. Students will investigate the economic, social, political, and cultural factors that generated the Haitian Revolution and explore the consequences of the event, including how the revolution contributed to the destruction of slavery in the western hemisphere and laid a foundation for human rights across the globe.
