This is the fourth course in a series dedicated to examining and dissecting what were the crucial and best decades of musical theater and dramatic plays to appear on Broadway. The 1970s brought us not only the gritty reality of "A Chorus Line" and the brilliantly bittersweet works of Stephen Sondheim, but also the nostalgic crowd-pleasers "No, No, Nanette" and "Annie." It was a time when Broadway looked to its past, but also to its future and allowed reality to enter. For many, it was perhaps the last truly great decade of the Broadway musical. Drama was similarly divided between light-hearted comedies and plays tackling serious and urgent social and racial issues. Many video and audio clips will make this an unforgettable experience. No previous courses required.
