Japanese Cinema - Post World War II   

Japanese cinema has a history that spans more than 100 years and has one of the oldest and largest film industries in the world. But it was after the end of World War II that Japanese film and directors gained world-wide notice and recognition, producing such great films as Rashomon, the Magnificent Seven, Late Spring and many others. This course will focus on the very best movies and directors that emerged from the debris of post-war Japan, including such filmmakers as Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi and Ichikawa. Expert lectures combined with informative film clips will make for an unforgettable experience.
