Golden Age of Greece
Students will discover the history of the 'Golden Age' of ancient Greece with a focus on Athens and Sparta between 507-338 BCE. Students will discuss economic, family, political, military, social, educational and art history of the period. The term "Golden' refers to a series of cultural transitions from astrology to astronomy, alchemy to chemistry, tyranny to democracy, bard with a lyre to theatre, mythology to fiction and non-fiction, travel-writers to history (Herodotus, Father of History), mythological cosmogonies to philosophy, divine interpretation of illness to medicine (Hippocrates, Father of Medicine), glorification of humans as well as the gods, formal static art style to classic, development of Olympics, etc.
