Intro to IT Security: CompTIA Security+   

Security+ teaches the skills to plan, implement, and maintain information security. 

Competencies:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic security concepts such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) triad, security models, and security policy concepts 
  • Operate network and host-based security, including protocols, firewalls, and wireless security. 
  • Organize identity and access management, including authentication, authorization, and account management. 
  • Identify threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities and explain how they can be mitigated. 
  • Devise cryptography techniques 
  • Explain the importance of security architecture and design and develop secure network architectures. 
  • Organize risk management, including risk analysis, risk mitigation, and business continuity planning. 
  • Infer the impact of laws, regulations, and compliance on IT security, including privacy and sensitive data issues. 
 
This course is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this rapidly growing field and covers a comprehensive range of security related topics, including network security, compliance and operational security, threats and vulnerabilities, application, data and host security, access control and identity management, and cryptography. This course aligns with the objectives for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam which can lead to job opportunities as a security administrator, network security specialist, security consultant and more.
