Course Objectives
- The course will cover Basic Anatomy and Physiology; medical terminology relating to organ systems and familiarize the students with common causes and symptoms of diseases. Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases guidelines will be covered. Commonly used medical abbreviations, symbols, acronyms, billing terminology, CMS-1500 Form and HIPAA guidelines will be discussed.
- Computerized medical billing software will enhance students’ hands-on skills for patient registration, editing patient records, posting procedures/diagnosis, posting payments, scheduling/canceling appointments, office management and hospital tracking. Practice task-oriented job skills will offer an opportunity for repetitive skill building.

- Understanding Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology
- Processing of CMS-1500 claim forms as well as computerized Medical Billing
- CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory)
- ICD-10 (introduction and guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance
- Case studies on both CPT 4 and ICD 10 will be presented
- Challenge sessions which demand critical skills will involve problem solving using more than one concept
