What does the CompTIA A+ professional role involve?

CompTIA A+ professional will typically become a support specialist or help desk technician and can then work their way up the career ladder through additional on-the-job training. Their main responsibilities is to provide technical support to the computer and network operations. This includes initially receiving problem calls from users either online or by telephone and troubleshooting the problem until it is resolved. It also involves updating the system log by creating a problem ticket and entering the details of the problem such as the caller’s name, the application program affected, the root cause of the problem, etc. This job requires excellent analytical and communication skills, ability to multi-task due to simultaneous problem calls in some instance, high tolerance to stress and agility in a fast-paced environment. They are usually hired by established businesses especially large corporations. They work in an office environment usually near the physical computer or network installation where he interacts with the other support staff. The technician reports to a supervisor or manager who may be the Systems Administrator. They may work the regular schedule or in some cases, may be assigned on a rotation or shift schedule. In some cases, the support technician may have to work offsite. They interact mostly with the system or application users.

 

How do I become CompTIA A+ certified?

The CompTIA A+ Core Series requires candidates to pass two exams: Core 1 (220-1101) and Core 2 (220-1102) covering the following new content:

  • Demonstrate baseline security skills for IT support professionals
  • Configure device operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS and administer client-based as well as cloud-based (SaaS) software
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve core service and support challenges while applying best practices for documentation, change management, and scripting
  • Support basic IT infrastructure and networking
  • Configure and support PC, mobile and IoT device hardware
  • Implement basic data backup and recovery methods and apply data storage and management best practices

 

Course Objectives

  • Configure and support necessary computer hardware and operating systems as well as networks and mobile devices.
  • Use, troubleshoot, and support directory and file management, CPUs and motherboards, POST and boot process functions, computer BUS structures, monitors, printers, and computer networks
  • Manage general computer maintenance, safety, hazard avoidance, and disposal considerations
  • Install or upgrade the operating system.
  • Manage external devices.
  • Troubleshoot common computer problems that can be resolved without replacing internal components.
  • Support popular software applications such as MS Office, email, and security packages; and manage an IT helpdesk.
