Hemodialysis Training Course at CUNY in the Heights (CITH)   

The course is designed to cover the anatomy and physiology of the kidney, common causes of End Stage Renal Disease, principles of hemodialysis procedure, treatment options, commonly used hemodialysis terms and abbreviations, patient's assessment, nutritional and social needs of End Stage Renal Disease patients, vascular access and cannulation techniques, infection control, medications, medical and technical complication.

Training emphasizes: 

  • Anatomy and Physiology of the kidney
  • History and regulatory issues of dialysis
  • Principles of hemodialysis, procedure, techniques, and adequacy
  • Basic laboratory tests
  • Medications used in hemodialysis setting
  • Common medical/technical complications in hemodialysis
  • Water treatment & reprocessing of dialyzer
  • Documentation on the dialysis flow sheet
  • Different dialysis machinery devices

 

PREREQUISITE:

  • Attend an Information Session. 
  • Upon successful completion of the course participants are gainfully ready to work in the Hemodialysis field before taking the National CCHT Certification Exam.
  • National Technician Exam Review is included in this course. Students who successfully complete the course are eligible to apply to take the National CCHT Certification Exam outcome.
  • Tuition fee does not include the Certification Exam.
