Course Objectives
The objective of the course is to acquire a better understanding of defense and security diplomacy, the conditions under which it occurs, and the implications of its failure. The interaction of nation-states at the bilateral, regional, and global levels on security challenges will be analyzed, with the goal of determining the sources of cooperation and conflict.

Curriculum
This course will meet once weekly for 1.5 hours per session over 8 weeks, will cover the theories and principles of defense and security diplomacy. Historical as well as contemporary cases of military-to-military diplomacy and negotiations involving civilian national security officials will be included. In addition to great-power competitions of the 20th century, the course will explore applications for modern geopolitics and diplomacy at multiple levels of analysis.
