BMCC’s 16-week Sterile Processing Technician Certificate Program is designed to present the basic concepts and principles for developing skills and competencies required for infection prevention and control in the sterile processing department in a health care facility. This course will offer knowledge in cleaning, disinfecting, decontamination, sterilization, Standard precautions, and Universal precautions. Writing assignments as appropriate to the discipline are part of the course. The 8-week lab portion will allow the student to practice the theory offered in lecture. The 8-week clinical portion will allow the student to gain experience in the hospital setting arrangements made through BMCC's healthcare partners.
Students served: This program is designed for allied health professionals desiring a career in sterile processing in a health care environment. The student completing this course will develop the entry-level knowledge and skills necessary to function as a Sterile Processing Technologist.
Successful completion of this program will earn students a BMCC Certificate of Completion and prepare you to sit for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Examination (with Provisional Certification).

Note: HSPA requires 400 internship hours to satisfy full CRCST Certification. Students will be responsible to secure their own Internships.
