If you want to be better prepared to take a Paramedic course – this course is for you! All New York State EMTs who enter paramedic class must be credentialed as EMTs throughout the entire course and cannot have an expired EMT certification before the end of the program. This course renews your EMT certification via CME while you take additional components to be better prepared and start learning Paramedic skills. This EMT-Basic refresher course is designed for EMTs who provide urgent care at emergency sites or in an ambulance during hospital transport. Students enrolled in this class will receive training on all necessary emergency medical care skills needed to fulfill duties as a New York State basic level EMT with an ambulance service or other specialized medical service. There is an option to pursue a National EMT certification and this class meets that requirement. This EMT-Basic Refresher course covers topics such as trauma management, emergency childbirth delivery, oxygen administration, triage, and cardiac arrest treatment. American Heart Association BCLS for Healthcare Provider class is included in the course. In addition to the challenge refresher EMT course, students will have additional training and experience geared towards preparing for Paramedic class. This paramedic prep course will introduce the EMT to the structure, curriculum, and expectations of a Paramedic course. Topics will include Anatomy and Physiology, Drug Math, Intravenous skills, EKG interpretation, and clinical hours on NYC 911 Paramedic ambulances (Drug test and physical required).
