Art and the Color Red

Red—whether crimson, vermilion, cardinal, or scarlet—is the color of revolution, of seduction, of fertility. It is an aggressive color. It jumps to the front, makes a statement, and affects our emotions. Wouldn't it be fun then to play with it? We'll use oil pastels and inks to make small paintings that explore color, shape, and form that use red to create energy and power. We'll discuss master works by Henri Matisse and others, and also observe how color affects our interpretations. You'll leave this class with a new energy and understanding of how to make an artwork pop. A supply list will be emailed upon registration.
