Medicinal and Edible Plants: Great Meadow Walk

Boston woods abound with useful plants, some of which are particular to this region. We'll tour the local paths of Arlington's Great Meadows and discuss what we find. Early Spring is the time for tender shoots and hearty roots. Learn what's delicious about a daisy while at the same time discussing the toothsome fare of yesteryear like sassafras tea and poke salat. Besides getting to know our delicious and healthful plant species, we will discuss the ethics of foraging on common land—land used not only by other people, but many other species who depend on the plants you might consider picking. You will hear about the identification of both edible and common toxic species, as well as proper and safe methods of collection, processing, and cooking. Fungus included (hopefully)! In an effort to keep our walking tours affordable, and to gain some financial support for our program, we are offering "pay what you will" options. Please choose the payment amount that is best for you. Thank you for your generosity!
