Puddingstone and Swamp: Ecology of Boston Area Woodlands

Get to know the natural history of your local woods and the ecological and geological processes that literally shaped these hills and wetlands. On this walk, you will be introduced to the major species of trees and herbaceous plants that dominate local woodland ecosystems and see for yourself how different niche environments favor certain kinds of plants over others. We'll discuss the seasonal norms, and discuss how you can learn what to expect to find in a new wood before you even get there, just by looking at Google Maps. An important clue for plant identification is knowing the nature of the soil it grows in. This season, look out for lady slippers! In an effort to keep our walking tours affordable, and to gain some financial support for our program, we are offering "pay what you will" options. Please choose the payment amount that is best for you. Thank you for your generosity.
