The Art & Meaning of Oriental Rugs

A traditional rug can add an elegant finishing touch to any room. It can be a focus, or bring a room together. Though the designs of oriental rugs diverge depending on the specific region of Asia from where they originated, as a group, the carpets from the Orient represent over two thousand years of artistic evolution and can contain motifs that date as far back as 500 BC. From Persian and European influences to French Aubusson designs, there are plenty of rugs in a variety of styles, sizes and colors. Learn about the ancient and the modern, the traditional and the contemporary - - the special appeal of rugs - - in this engaging lecture with Julien Taibi of Woven Art, located in Brookline. Julien's expertise is in all facets of the rug business including sales, cleaning, restoration, appraisals, padding and other services. The vast collection at their Hammond Street location includes rugs from Armenia, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Pakistan, Romania, Turkey and more. Julian also specializes in rare and collectible antique rugs and textiles. Whether you are a novice or experienced in Oriental rugs, you'll learn something new during this informative session.
