Beginning Software Engineering: Part I

There is more to software engineering than coding—coding is the easy part. Starting from scratch, we will touch upon each of the phases of the Software Development Life-Cycle, focusing on beginning processes and skills. By the end of Part I, you will have installed and configured software development environments for Java, HTML, CSS, and SQL on your personal computer, you will design, implement, and test three simple Java applications, and you will install and modify a working relational database. You will also write your first web page. With this overview of beginning software engineering skills, you will be prepared to move on to Part II next term and will have the experience you need to decide whether to pursue further study and/or a career in software engineering. No previous programming experience required. Although this course is taught in a PC lab, skills are transferrable to Mac.
