A History of Fort Point Channel: A Walking Tour

South Boston's Fort Point Channel area, or Innovation District, has had quite a history. Did you know that the collection of late 19th and early 20th century brick buildings along Summer and Congress Streets served as distribution warehouses for the country's largest storage of wool? From a once industrial and railway outpost to today's bustling hotbed of urban chic, fallen strongholds have made way for newcomers, but their impact remains. On this walking tour, we will discuss the history of the Boston Wharf Company, the Congress Street Baseball Grounds, the founding of the artist community, the Necco Sweets buildings, and more. There was plenty of molasses too! We'll leave you filled with a mixture of nostalgia and awe.
