Building New Friendships, Fellowships, and a Sense of Belonging

Many studies have shown the positive benefits of friendship on social, emotional, and physical well-being. Close friendships provide emotional support as friends comfort, help, share, and inform each other. It takes courage to break out of an isolating time in our lives, and to rebuild our support networks—in person. After a serious illness, a period of grieving, divorce, or relocating to a new area, we could find it difficult to "get out there again," and to be socially confident, outgoing, and open to new relationships. Simply going to a meet-up might feel scary or awkward, and we may prefer volunteering, joining a support group, or taking a class. On this evening, we will offer guidance for how to explore and tap into your wider communities to build friendships, fellowships, and a deeper sense of belonging.
