Botanical Illustration

In this course, artists of all levels will learn to use observation as your guide in your drawings. Using plants and flowers as our models, we'll discuss different methods of seeing and drawing as we learn about layering simple shapes, creating light and shadow, the role of negative space, and the overall artistic process rendering what we observe. Please have drawing paper, a selection of pencils (ideally drawing pencils of differing hardness: a 4B, B, and 2F is a good starter set, but any pencil will do), an eraser, a pencil sharpener, and masking tape on hand. We suggest that you tape your drawing paper to a board and orient it so that the camera on your computer can be pointed at it. You will also need a small collection of flowers or plants to draw from.
