Vivaldi's Four Seasons: A New Look at the Baroque Masterpiece

Of the 500 or so pieces written by Antonio Vivaldi, one has withstood the test of time more than most—The Four Seasons. Penned in the early 18th Century, this four-part concerto described in musical detail the changing seasons, from the icy chill of winter to the doldrums of summer, accomplishing the task in exquisite detail. Enjoy the opportunity to slow down and examine Vivaldi’s masterpiece in detail, absorbing each section slowly to see and hear how deeply music and instrumentation can evoke the feeling of weather and change. We'll discuss the piece in its original context as well as hear a variety of recordings—both classic and contemporary—seeing how different ensembles can interpret the same notes. Join us as we concentrate on one of classical music's most beloved works.
