On this walking tour, we'll explore the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the spectacular contemporary park that curves through the heart of downtown Boston. Meandering like a wavy ribbon of green for 1.5 miles, it stretches from the North End to Chinatown, connecting Boston's oldest neighborhoods to its waterfront. But, how did Boston’s infamous “Big Dig” manage to create such a glorious rooftop garden on the top of the I93 tunnel? As we stroll through The Greenway's series of linked parks, we’ll talk about the complicated planning that created this urban oasis. We’ll explore the Pollinator Ribbon, visit the labyrinth and sculpture in the Armenian Heritage Park, and hear the story behind the famous Greenway Carousel. One of the few organic and self-sustaining public parks in the country, we’ll learn about its pioneering maintenance program, including its famous Compost Tea (for plants, not people!). Its collection of curated permanent and seasonal public art nestles among beautiful fountains, and an amazing variety of flowers, trees, and shrubs. Every year, over a million people visit this special park. Please join us for a wonderful “Walk in the Park.”
