Tour the Boston Harborwalk: A Walk Along the Waterfront

The Boston Harborwalk, started in 1984 as a way of protecting public access to the Boston Harbor, now stretches along Boston’s waterfront for 47 miles, connecting a variety of neighborhoods from East Boston to the Neponset River with a single walkway along the Boston waterfront. On this walking tour, we’ll explore the 1.5 mile section from Long Wharf to the Coast Guard Station at Hanover Street. We’ll stroll along the reconstructed piers and wharves, each with its own special stories and layers of history. We’ll walk along Battery Wharf, the wharf from which Massachusetts’ famous 54th Regiment left for the Civil War, and the British soldiers left for the Battle of Bunker Hill. Huge granite warehouses line these wharves. Now home to luxurious condos, they once stored the treasures of the China Trade. Still the Queen of Boston’s wharves, Long Wharf bustles today like it did when it was built in 1734, when it was the longest wharf in the world and Boston was the wealthiest port in the entire British Empire. Please join us as we walk along today’s sparkling gem of a harbor, enjoy the stories of its past, and discuss its hopes for the future. In an effort to keep our walking tours affordable, and to gain some financial support for our program, we are offering "pay what you will" options. Please choose the payment amount that is best for you. Thank you for your generosity!
