Over the course of many decades, Benny Goodman and his clarinet played scintillating music across the world. Playing as a sideman, in a small combo, in a big band and even in front of a symphony orchestra, he developed a unique style that enthralled audiences large and small. Over the course of three sessions, we will look at the career of Benny Goodman, from his beginnings as a sideman, through his reign as the King of Swing in the Big Band Era, continuing on through his entry into the world of classical music late in his career. Along the way we will hit the high points of his career, including his role in the founding of the Big Band Era and his landmark appearance at Carnegie Hall. We will also spend time with the great musicians that Goodman helped and fostered, including Harry James, Gene Krupa and Lionel Hampton. Come and join us in this journey through the Swing Era.
